Request for advice from a start-up on how to market a Novel Food
Request: We are a start-up aimed at introducing a NOVEL FOOD in the European market, we enclose a presentation file for further details. We are asking for your advice so that we can start the necessary paperwork to send to EFSA and decide which path to follow in analyzing the product.
Development of work: I checked the attached technical document and requested a call with the founders of the start-up. I highlighted all the issues related to placing a Novel Food on the market in Europe and what practices there are to follow in order to obtain approval. Above all, toxicological studies are crucial for the project’s resurrection and that these must be carried out as required by EFSA. We started the collaboration by collecting everything that could prove a history of consumption of the product in other non-European countries in order to simplify the authorization procedures and then we proceeded with the selection of the most suitable laboratories for the required studies. The studies are currently being carried out and the results are awaited.
